Ray's Manx

So like usual a customer gives us a call.  He really didn't know what to expect and neither did we.  He had just bought a new manx that was in serious need of repair.  Just about every aspect of this car we were going to have to touch.  The fiberglass has cracks, the wiring was barely working, the brakes were non existent, and the pans had more holes in it than a swiss cheese factory.

As you can see the chassis needs work, lots of work.  There is a large amount of rust and dirt sitting on just about every part of this car.  We ended up just cutting the wiring to get it out.  I am amazed this car could drive itself with the condition it was in.

Ray came by the shop and wanted to see what has been going on.  As you can see he approves of the work we have been doing.

This is the new chassis we had built.  The old one was just too far gone to even begin to repair.  What doesn't show so well was the main hump was braised together.  You have to take 14 inches out of the pans to make a manx.  The pans themselves were full of holes and very weak.  It was a complete write off.

Once the chassis was back we could mount the body and put the floor back in.  Yes as you can see that is a diamond plate floor.  You are going to have to wear shades the entire time you drive this car.  We put on some 19" rims we had around the shop just for fun.

Here we have the custom front beam we had to build to suck the tires inside and give the car the "island" look Ray was going for.  I think the stance sets the car off and Ray agree's.

We have to mock up the seat placement.  With our system the drivers seat is movable but the passengers will be fixed.

Now it is time for the engine mock up and assembly.  You can see that for the mock up and a few pics we used the full chrome shroud.  This is what the customer wanted to use, he wants this car to shine.  For the break in we used our break in shroud.  Yes it has a GEX engine sticker on it.  No this is not a GEX engine.  The shroud is off an old engine I had and we didn't want to get the new chrome one dirty.  No worries.

So now for the body.  Here is another look at the poor shape the fiberclass is in.

Time for some fiberglass repair.  If you have ever worked with this stuff before you know how much a pain it is to get clean.  It itches like crazy and burns your eyes.  Watch yourself around this stuff.
