Dave's 57 Oval Rag

So Dave has had the itch... we keep telling him to see a doctor but he refuses, but that is a different story.  No in all seriousness he has had the itch to get another aircooled ride.  So he found a guy selling this 57 oval.  Apparently it has been sitting in a field for years.  Derrell couldn't wait and started to tear into it.

Well Derrell decided to grab the pressure washer and have at the car.  So much dirt and crap came flooding out of it I was amazed.  The blue paint was blowing off the car in chunks.  Amazingly the body has holes but not a lot of dents.

Then for some reason Dave decided to pull the race beam out of his 63 and put it under the 57.  Just look at that old style of beam.  The drums turn under the backing plate.  WEIRD!!!!

So Dave had this brilliant idea to put his Erco's on with the 135's we had around the shop.  Then we decided that we needed to try the white walls out.  Smokin hot!!!

Another bright idea.  So since we have a nice 61 race car pan that is being unused at this point we decided this might be the perfect car to put it under.  This way we can fix the other pan and still roll around.

But first we had to cut the rear end up for the new 8 inch wide slicks.  YES that's right.  We took a saw-z-all to an Oval.  That will probably get us a few angry letters and emails.  Oh well.  It's not their car.

Time to squeeze the cage into this very narrow body.  Plus a little work had to be done now that the two are married.

Now we would suggest this mod to anyone who has long legs or is just tired of how close you have to sit.  6 inch shifter reposition.

Had to narrow a beam.  Not the stock beam but another one we had.

Time for a test fit of the new fuel system.  Can't really go into much detail about the power plant.

So the car is on the ground and ready for the rear end to be installed.  Check it out.

Well the cage is back from Andrew's and it looks super sweet.  The plan was to hide it inside the pilars.  Andrew did an amazing job of bending the bars.  The back seat will have to be narrowed to fit but there WILL be a back seat as well.

When we removed the seals the lower window corners were completely gone and had to be replaced.  The same 61 donor car became the source for the new parts.  Derrell jumped right into welding up the new ones.  We didn't finish it off as we are trying to match the outside of the car.  Nice body work on the window corners just wouldn't match the pealing paint and rust holes.

The motor is now in mock up as well.  Time for the big turbo motor and huge manifold.
