The 58 with a twist

So the story goes that we were approached one day by a gentleman selling his old VW.  Derrell was rolling around in his 56 breaking in the motor.  You know driving it so hard the tires would smoke.  So he is followed back to the shop by this guy.  He tells us he has an oval window that he wants to sell for a few hundred dollars.  Well at the time we had no place to put it.  So we decided to take his number and call him when room became available.  Well a few weeks pass and he really wants this car gone.  So we take a ride out there one day for lunch.  Well the car wasn't an oval but it was a rag.  So we told him we would have to think about it.  Well a few more weeks pass and now he really really wants to get rid of it.  So we struck a deal and the car is now ours.

We have big plans for it, mainly to do something different then anyone else out there.  When we go to shows we see the same old thing.  Either a nice resto, Cal-look, patina, or daily driver.  Those are all nice but how come nobody does anything really different anymore.  Why isn't the envelope being pushed any more?

So here is the 58 rag with a 70 IRS pan.  This is going to be a TRUE canyon carver.

Don't feel too bad.  The hood is not year correct.  The dash has been cut out.  The tail lights are not correct either.  Oh and it has one piece windows and converted door handles for some reason.

Most of it will stay but the door handles and a few other things are going back to year specific.  The original color was Diamond Jade and I might go back to that as well.

Here is the donor pan.

Stay tuned for more updates!!!
